In 1996 Philip Holmes-Smith founded a company called SREAMS- School Research Evaluation and Measurement Services. For 10 years he worked with schools and education departments, researching and evaluating school achievement. From extensive work in the area, Phil developed the opinion that schools should be using data more effectively to drive pedagogy based on outcome and school growth data.
In 2007, SPA (student performance analyser) was launched as a tool to make these goals easy. Based on the KISS principal, our aim was to simplify the analysis of data and create a tool to track student growth.
Since its inception, SPA has grown to be used in over 1,500 schools in Victoria, whilst also expanding interstate and internationally. Along with an expanding client base, so too are our capabilities. In that time we have dramatically increased the number of tests we analyse and since August 2014, we have begun expanding our product base to encompass software targeted directly at Australian schools looking for a suite of products that tie all student data together, from NAPLAN test result to weekly classroom-based achievements to welfare management and daily school management tasks.
What we currently call the “Student Performance Analyser” has become known as SPAstandard. Schools who are already happy with their current SPA licence will be able to continue at their current level of service using SPAstandard. SPAstandard will continue to be a secure web-based software tool used by schools to analyse, track and store their students’ standardised assessment data. It will continue to produce a number of sortable reports that allow schools to quickly and easily interpret and monitor the progress of individual students, groups of students (e.g. classes) and whole school cohorts.
